The Foucault and Religious Studies Seminar

The Foucault and Religious Studies Seminar is an annual seminar that investigates the relationship of the work of Michel Foucault to the Study of Religion. This has taken on many forms in recent years, including meetings devoted to readings of Christian sources in Confessions of the Flesh, as well as the intersection of Foucault’s work with non-Christian traditions, such as Judaism, Islam, Indian religions, and so on. The 2024 meeting, in line with the Foucault After 40 World Congress, will be devoted to methodological questions. How does Foucault model unique approaches to the Study of Religion, and what resources does he provide for the study of religion in general? How has Foucault influenced different folds across the study of religion, including approaches in cultural studies, queer studies, the archeologies of discourse, and so on, and how can we build further on existing methodological contributions?
